What makes up an HDR photograph…?

I often get a lot of questions about how real my photos are and how much processing actually goes into them. I use a process called HDR, where you take multiple exposures to cover the entire dynamic range of a scene and compress them together in post to get a perfectly exposed base image to work with. I then apply various photoshop level, curve, saturation, Noise reduction, and sharpening techniques to bring out all of the detail that I want in my final image. Just to give everyone an idea to what type of enhancements I make to my images, I am going to share my base raw file images, the intermediate photomatix output, and the final ready for print HDR image. HDR often gets a bad rap for producing overcooked and processed looking images. If you are one of those HDR haters, then hopefully after viewing some of the images on my site, you might try and give it another chance. With the right technique and a bit of HDR, you can produce amazingly lifelike and realistic images that are sure to impress any viewer!! Anyways, enjoy the images!!!

I am working on upcoming workshops that will feature both Landscape and Wildlife photography and also a workshop on post processing. If you are interested in attending one of my workshops and would like to learn something specifically, please leave a comment with you particular field of interest. I would love everyone’s input during the planning of these workshops so I appreciate any input or feedback from all of you!!! Thanks in advance!!

    Hey Jamie,

I always like your HDR images. The thing a lot of people don’t realize is that you still need to take a great image regardless of the HDR. This post shows that. If you look at maybe EV 1, you’ll see there’s already a good shot there. The HDR just brings out the detail and adds some drama to it.

I may be interested in a workshop in the future. Maybe to get some new ideas with HDR. I don’t know.

You can add me to your mailing for any workshops. I’m just an amateur looking to get better, with just enough knowledge to know that I know nothing.
